The GDSP (Global Data Science Project) for COVID-19 was launched on March 11th, 2020. The project aims to quantitatively measure secondary impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our societies and inform public and private decision makers to make effective and appropriate policy decisions.
This collective effort is led by Professor Toyotaro Suzumura, Dr. Dario Garcia Gasulla from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center with advice from Dr. Manuel Garcia-Herranz, chief scientist from the UNICEF Office of Innovation. The team consists of volunteer computer scientists, data analysts, designers, and legal experts from various countries including US, Japan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Spain, France, and Lithuania.
With situations on the ground changing rapidly, the team’s priority is to perform near real time quantitative analysis of various societal aspects including mobility, health, education, online behavior to better understand the state of affairs at local and global levels.
